- Description
Ever feel like you're capable of more than your current health and safety role allows?
If you've got a foundation in health and safety and you're looking to build a career rather than just do a job, we'd love to hear from you.
You’ll join a supportive consultancy where you'll receive hands-on training, mentoring and development from experienced consultants, helping you build a rewarding career in Health & Safety Consultancy.
Junior Health & Safety Consultant
- Location: Swadlincote, Derbyshire (with national travel to client sites)
- Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
- Travel: throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays
About this opportunity
We're working with a growing, independent health and safety consultancy that does things differently.
Their approach isn't about clipboards, box-ticking, or overwhelming clients with unnecessary bureaucracy. Instead, they focus on building lasting relationships, delivering pragmatic advice, and helping businesses create safer, stronger workplaces that put people first.
As part of a close-knit and supportive team, you'll work alongside experienced consultants who are passionate about developing the next generation of health and safety professionals.
You’ll receive hands-on support, mentoring, coaching, and practical exposure to consultancy work, gradually building your confidence and expertise.
What you'll be doing
No two weeks look the same, but you'll be involved in:
- Supporting health and safety consultants with client projects across a range of industries
- Shadowing client visits and learning how to provide practical health and safety advice
- Assisting with risk assessments, safe systems of work, and health and safety documentation
- Supporting the development and delivery of training workshops
- Helping clients improve their health and safety management systems
- Assisting with monitoring, assurance and compliance activities
- Supporting clients through accreditation and certification processes
- Building relationships with clients and learning how consultancy services are delivered
- Developing your technical knowledge and consultancy skills through structured training and mentoring
What we're looking for
We're far more interested in the person than a long list of qualifications. This role has been created for someone ready to take the next step in their career.
You'll ideally have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 Health & Safety qualification
- Experience where health and safety forms part of your current role OR experience in a Health & Safety Coordinator, Administrator, Assistant, Compliance or similar position
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- A full UK valid driving licence and vehicle
- Willingness to travel nationally and occasionally stay away overnight
Most importantly, you'll be:
- Curious and eager to learn
- Comfortable asking questions
- Passionate about helping people stay safe at work
- Positive, approachable and personable
- Open-minded and willing to challenge traditional thinking
- Looking for a long-term opportunity where you can grow
What's on offer?
- A clear pathway into a full Health & Safety Consultant position
- Exposure to a wide range of industries and client environments
- A supportive and collaborative team that genuinely wants you to succeed
- Friendly, family-feel culture where people matter
- Ongoing professional development and career progression
- Pension scheme
- Mileage and business travel expenses
- The chance to be part of an ambitious and growing business where your contribution will make a real difference
